ABOUT ABOUT

The Boniuk Library houses over 200 volumes of translations and a few original works. Joel Alpert from Yizkor Books in Print and Avraham Groll from Jewish Gen help you unlock the resources found in English translations. They will discuss the work being done on the translation project and all the other endeavors of Jewish Gen.

Did you ever consider that most Ashkenazi Jews know more about the Exodus, the Diaspora, European history and modern Israel, than they do about the towns their relatives came from in Eastern Europe? Sure, we know our family came from Odessa or Vilna, or perhaps a small shtetl near Kiev. But what do we know about the day-to-day lives of our family members before they left for the United States and other locales? There appears to be a gap between the stories that we heard from our grandparents and great grandparents about their towns and villages and the descriptions we read about in history books of that period. This talk reveals an unused source that can fill this gap.

Visitors with a ticket to the event will have admission waived.
